NEW WEB-LOG

The alignment of my skeleton requires, during my workouts, my primary focus. The alignment of the skeleton system is important for efficient running, only then the engagement of essential muscles will be enabled. During one of these workouts, I recognized in the runner’s bio-mechanics, a metaphor for the structure of Machine Projects.

Exotic words

4th mini-post presents a list of “exotic words”;
will be continued:

Elixir, a 'magic fluidum' that engages the three Q-supports: 'Project-Machine Overhaul-Safety'. Engagement is vital for the interaction between these three  fundamentals of a turnaround.

Maturity Levels     'Make Safety Proactive'  Success depends on individual 'heroics', poorly controlled, reactive.

  • Success depends on individuals and management system, reactive.
  • Project teams work together, proactive.
  • Strong sense of teamwork within the project, process measurable and controlled, proactive.
  • Strong sense of teamwork across the whole project team, focus on process improvement, optimizing, proactive.
Q-supports, a platform supported by three columns as metaphor for the three fundamentals of a turnaround; i.e.

  • The Project itself determined by cost, scope of work, and duration (downtime).
  • The Overhaul with the target to restore the Integrity of the equipment involved, determined by performance, reliability and lifetime of capital items.
  • Safety of people and machinery, unstable process, not measurable.

Align, aligning a pump and motor means that shafts are 'in line', shafts are in the proper position, run vibration-less. Again. This is my metaphor to bring the different objectives  in line which each other (alignment). Example: if an unplanned and costly task has to be executed, project-people could consider skipping this task. The rotating engineer as a representative of operation knows, that this task is important to optimize the overhaul interval on the long term. Both have fundamental reasons to force the other into his direction. This situation has to be 'aligned', a cost-benefit analysis long term has to be performed. A decision must be taken that’s best for the company.

Engage, after aligning a pump with motor both shafts, have to be reliably coupled (engaged). This is my metaphor for a situation where all three fundamental Q-supports are aligned with each other; the maturity level.

Interaction between different project teams will develop, and will result in the required deliverables as discussed in the previous example under 'Align'.
